Frequently asked questions about our IT services

IT support, hosting, Microsoft 365 licensing, software development and web design: answers to what we are asked most often.

General questions

Do you offer web hosting in Quebec?

Yes. We host WordPress and static sites in datacenters located in Canada. Your data stays in the country, under Canadian and Quebec privacy laws. Daily backups and SSL certificates are included.

Can you take over an existing website?

Yes, that happens all the time. We start with a quick audit of the site, then handle the full migration: files, database, email and domain name. In most cases the transfer happens with zero downtime for your visitors.

How much does website hosting cost?

Website hosting starts at $5 per month and domain names at $20 per year, with domain privacy included. The final price depends on the size of the site and your needs, but it is always a fixed, predictable fee with no hidden charges. A free 30 minute call is usually enough to give you a clear price.

Do you only work with businesses in Montreal?

No. We are based in Montreal but we work remotely with clients across Quebec, Canada and internationally. Most of our services (hosting, development, web design, licensing, Microsoft 365) are delivered perfectly well at a distance.

Can you supply our Microsoft licenses and other software?

Yes. We supply Microsoft 365 and other business software (security, backup, collaboration). You get the right plan, consolidated billing, deployment and support in one place. Ask us for a quote on the product you need.

Can you act as our IT department?

Yes, that is our core role: day-to-day employee support, onboarding and offboarding, device setup, license and security management, in French and English. We mostly support teams of under 50 people, with same day responses.

Do you build custom software?

Yes. Web applications, client portals, APIs, integrations and internal tools. We deliver in small usable steps, documented, and the code is yours. A free 30 minute call is enough to scope the need.

Do you also design websites?

Yes. From mockup to live site: design, development, baseline SEO, hosting, and training so your team can edit the content themselves.

IT support and external IT department for small businesses in Montreal

How much does IT support cost?

Hourly IT support starts at $45 per hour. For a team that calls us regularly, a monthly plan includes support and proactive management of devices and licenses, and almost always costs less. We recommend the right option after a 30-minute call.

Do you come on site for IT support?

Yes, across the greater Montreal area, for example to set up workstations, printers and networks. Most everyday requests are still resolved remotely the same day, anywhere in Quebec and Canada.

Is IT support a monthly plan or hourly?

Both exist. The monthly plan includes support and proactive management of devices and licenses, and almost always costs less for a team that calls us regularly. Hourly suits occasional needs and one-off projects.

Can you prepare a new employee's computer before they start?

Yes. Give us the start date and the role: the computer is configured, protected and tested, and accounts and access are created, before day one. The same written process applies at departure, to remove access and recover the equipment.

Can you supply the computers and phones?

Yes. We recommend, order, configure and deliver computers, phones and accessories, then keep track of them: inventory, updates and encryption.

How fast do you respond to a support request?

Everyday requests get a reply the same day, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm (ET), in French or English, through a single point of contact.

Web hosting, domains, security and backups

How much does web hosting cost?

From $5 per month for a site. Domain names start at $20 per year, with WHOIS privacy included, and migration from your current host is included. The final price depends on the size of the site and your needs, and you get a fixed fee before we start.

Does migrating to your hosting cost extra?

No. Migration is included when you move to us: copying files and the database, testing on a temporary address, then switching DNS once everything is verified, with no visible downtime for your visitors. Your email and domain are migrated at the same time.

Does my hosting data stay in Canada?

Yes. The servers and the backups are physically in Canada, which makes compliance with Quebec's Law 25 on the protection of personal information much simpler.

What happens if my site goes down on a Saturday?

You email or call us, and our team picks it up, not a call centre. The site is also monitored with uptime alerts, and a restore usually takes ten to thirty minutes for a typical small business site.

I already own my domain elsewhere: do I have to transfer it?

No, it isn't required. We can manage the domain where it is, or transfer it to us. Either way, it stays registered in your name, in an account you own.

Why do my emails land in spam?

In most cases SPF, DKIM or DMARC records are missing on your domain. We set them up and document them, which is usually a one-evening fix, so your email reaches the inbox.

My WordPress site was already hacked: can you recover it?

Yes. We clean the site, bring it back online, then close the entry point: plugins updated, passwords changed, firewall and two-factor authentication on admin accounts, so it doesn't happen again.

Does the firewall slow my site down?

No. The firewall runs server-side rather than in a WordPress plugin, so it doesn't weigh down every page. Combined with server caching, your pages stay fast.

Software development, internal tools and automation

How long until a first version?

Small tool: one to three weeks. Application or portal: two to six weeks for a first usable version.

Who owns the code?

You do. It ships with documentation and can be taken over by any team.

Can you improve existing software?

Yes. We start with a review of the code and hosting, then propose clear steps.

What if our needs change?

That's planned for. Tools are built to be changed, and you're not obliged to go through us forever.

Do we need to change our software?

Almost never. The goal is to make what you have work better, not replace everything.

How many hours can we recover?

We measure it before starting. If the gain doesn't justify the work, we'll tell you.

Can you redo our current site?

Will the site be bilingual?

If you want it, yes: French and English, with the correct language tags for search engines.

Yes, and that is planned from the start. You get short training and documentation.

Microsoft 365 licenses

How much do Microsoft 365 licenses cost?

Licenses start at $4.50 per user per month. The exact price depends on the product, the plan and the number of users. We send you a clear quote before anything is ordered.

What is the difference between Business Standard and Business Premium?

Business Standard provides email, Teams and the Office apps. Business Premium adds advanced security: device protection, conditional access and management of computers and phones. Once you have sensitive data or remote work, Premium is usually the right choice.

Can we change plans later?

Yes. You can move up to a higher plan at any time and add or remove users. We handle the change so your employees don't lose their email or files.

How many users do the Business plans support?

Microsoft 365 Business plans (Basic, Standard, Premium and Apps) are limited to 300 users. Beyond that, Enterprise plans (E3, E5) apply.

What is the difference between Microsoft 365 and Office 2024?

Microsoft 365 is a subscription: always up-to-date apps, email, Teams, cloud storage and security. Office 2024 is a one-time purchase of a few apps without the online services. For most businesses, the subscription is more practical and more secure.

How are licenses billed?

From $4.50 per user per month. Depending on the product, billing is monthly or annual, per user. We put everything on one invoice and track your renewals so nothing expires without you knowing.

Where is our data stored?

For a Canadian Microsoft 365 account, the core data (email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams) is stored in datacenters in Canada. We verify the configuration of your environment to confirm data residency.

Does Microsoft 365 back up our email and files?

Microsoft protects its infrastructure, but not your accidental deletions or an attack that encrypts your files. An independent Microsoft 365 backup is strongly recommended, and we can set it up.

Can you migrate our existing email to Microsoft 365?

Yes. We migrate mailboxes, history, contacts and calendars from your current provider (old server, Gmail, web host), and schedule the cutover outside working hours.

Do you offer nonprofit pricing?

Microsoft offers dedicated licenses for eligible nonprofit organizations. Tell us your situation and we will check what is available.
